J. P. Chr. Emde Liepzig 1841Condition: Used - Click on Images for CloseupsBeautiful wood, flamed 1-piece back. Antiqued and with nicely graduated wood. The neck is a regular width but more shallow than most, making it easy on players with small hands to reach around and shift. I suspect this was an alteration at some point to keep the string action lower towards the bridge as the neck is at a sharper angle than factory specs. Yet again, players who have tried this violin find the shallow neck depth easy to work with. This violin has nice, warm tone and easy response, strong for student solo work and playing out in an orchestra. Very good first violin for a dedicated player. **Note from Rhiannon: At some point in the past there was damage at the bottom where the chinrest attaches [see photo]. What most likely happened was an inexperienced player or shop owner grossly overtightened a chinrest (one which mounts to the side) which forced the rib to jut out past the back plate. My guess is that the rib was then put back to shape as well as possible and the seam and small gap filled with hide glue. All this before it came to our shop. This repaired flaw does not at all affect the tone and but is, sadly, a detriment to the dollar value since it is not in top, pristine condition. I am confident it will never be a problem with this seam but know some teachers choose to avoid violins with any past damage completely. It is a choice of the player to discern if this damage is acceptable. SOLDBack to Used Violins |
