"I want to Fiddle!"
So, you saw the fiddlers at the Olympics Ceremony and want to play violin/fiddle?
Where to Start
Fiddleheads' owner, Rhiannon Schmitt, is a fiddler and award-winning classical violinist/violist as well as a private teacher. She knows her instruments inside and out. Her experience and honesty make her particularly skilled at matching players to the perfect instrument for their needs and budget.
Thus, Fiddleheads has a fantastic reputation, strong customer following and sells to customers around the world! By visiting our site and contacting us you are taking a fantastic first step towards taking on this extraordinary musical path!
A few great places to start are on our New Violins and In-Stock/Used Violins pages. 90% of our customers find simply browsing these pages to be very helpful in narrowing down their options and seeing instruments that really stand out as possibilities. You may also find other resources on the site helpful.
Also note that we encourage players to select an instrument first, then to choose a bow and case to make an "outfit." (Outfit meaning violin, bow and case). We discount bows 20% off with an instrument purchase and, depending on the level of the violin, can even include a free case. All these details can be worked out when you contact us.
So, What's the Difference Between the Violin and the Fiddle?
Our published article to answer to this question was actually used as a resource for a USA Today story. Read the details here to learn the answer to this much-asked question.
(And a heads up, you can buy a violin from us and use it for both classical and fiddle styles, or anything in between. We are happy to have your instrument setup (strings, bridge, etc) to suit either style you seek.)
Instrument Sizing
Most adults play a full size or 4/4 violin, however this varies on the size of the player. And kids will certainly need various sizes depending on their age and height. So it is important to know which size to play. Rhiannon has created the web's absolute best violin and viola sizing chart using her expertise as a teacher of students of all ages. Click here to check on which size you can use or email us for advice.
Once we know the size you seek it is a simple matter of finding one to suit your budget.
